Our October event is over but it’s never to late to meet an extraordinary baseball lifer with an unforgettable story to tell.

Meet our guest speaker: Zack Minasian Sr.

Zack Minasian Sr. stands as a respected figure in the world of professional baseball, with a career that spans over five decades and a legacy woven into the fabric of the sport. His deep-rooted passion for baseball, combined with unparalleled dedication, has shaped not only his professional path but also the experiences of countless players and coaches who have crossed his path.

Zack's journey in baseball began as a teenager in the late 1960s, working as the "clubbie" for the Ogden Dodgers, a rookie league affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Under the guidance of legendary manager Tommy Lasorda, Zack absorbed invaluable lessons about the game and its nuances, which would later inform his own management style. This foundational experience ignited his lifelong passion for the sport, compelling him to document his insights and adventures in his first book, "Lasorda University," whereby he shares the wisdom gleaned from his time with one of baseball's greatest mentors.

Zack Minasian's professional career in baseball took root in 1988, when he joined the Texas Rangers as the visiting clubhouse manager. Over the next two decades, he left an indelible mark on the franchise, serving as the home clubhouse and equipment manager from 1995 to 2009, and eventually taking on the role of administrative assistant to the field manager for the Boston Red Sox in 2012. Throughout these years, Zack revolutionized clubhouse operations and equipment management, establishing a standard that would be admired and emulated across Major League Baseball.

His commitment to excellence did not go unnoticed. Renowned owner George Steinbrenner once remarked that Zack's visiting clubhouse was "the best in baseball," while players like Chuck Finley and Bo Jackson praised Zack for creating environments that fostered success and camaraderie. Finley claimed, “If we had Zack, we’d probably win 20 more games,” underscoring Zack’s influence on team dynamics, while Bo Jackson referred to Zack's clubhouse as the "Taj Mahal of all clubhouses," a testament to the exceptional care and attention to detail he provided.

Zack's contributions to baseball extended beyond the clubhouse. He was actively involved in charitable endeavors, particularly with "Caps For Kids," a charity dedicated to supporting children with cancer, and played a key role in the Major League Equipment Managers Association's commitment to the cause for over three decades. His dedication to service and community left a lasting impact, illustrating his belief that baseball is not just a game, but a means to give back.

As his professional career progressed, Zack's family remained an integral part of his life. Today, he takes immense pride in observing the continuation of his family legacy, with three of his four sons engaged in various roles within major league baseball organizations, ensuring that his passion for the sport continues to be passed down through generations.

Zack Minasian Sr. is more than just a clubhouse manager; he is a baseball luminary whose journey reflects the spirit of the game. Through his experiences, advocacy, and the legacy he has created, Zack remains a valuable contributor to the baseball community and an inspiration for aspiring professionals looking to carve their own paths in America's pastime.
